What to Expect in My Studio
Philosophy
In my studio, learning the violin requires hard work, dedication, and finding joy throughout the process. The goal is for each student to find new skills and find new outlets to express themselves because that’s what music is all about. My hope for each student is that they will be able to better their skills and also have fun.
Attendance
Tuition is calculated based on the total number of lessons scheduled for the semester and is divided into equal monthly payments. Monthly tuition is the standard payment option for all students and reserves the student’s regular weekly lesson time throughout the semester.
Because tuition is based on the semester schedule rather than individual lessons, monthly tuition remains due regardless of student attendance. If a student is unable to attend a scheduled lesson, the lesson will not be refunded or deducted from the following month’s tuition. The student’s lesson time remains reserved for them, even when they are absent. The lesson will still end at the time that it is meant too. I have many students and I can’t extend the time into their lesson.
If a family needs a different payment arrangement, please communicate with me directly. I am happy to discuss alternative arrangements on an individual basis.
Monthly Tuition
Students and families are encouraged to provide as much notice as possible when they know they will miss a lesson. Planned vacations, appointments, and other known absences should be communicated in advance. Student absences do not result in a reduction or refund of tuition. If a no show happens without previous communication, the lesson will not be refunded.
Student Cancellations & Absences
Any planned teacher absences will be communicated as far in advance as possible and will be taken into consideration when creating the semester schedule.
If I need to cancel a lesson unexpectedly or at the last minute, I will make every effort to provide a make-up lesson at a mutually convenient time. If a make-up lesson cannot be scheduled, the cost of that lesson will be refunded.
My goal is to maintain a consistent and reliable schedule for every student while also being fair and flexible when unexpected circumstances arise.
Teacher Cancellations & Absences
When you sign up for a day and lesson time, students will pick based on the availability of the studio which can be found on the calendar.
For example, if you choose Wednesday as your regular lesson day, your lessons will take place on the Wednesdays listed on the semester calendar.
The semester calendar is planned in advance so that students and families know which dates lessons will take place. These dates are the basis for the semester’s tuition.
If a student is needing to switch days or times, please refer to the calendar to see if this is possible, or contact me and I can work with you if the day or time switch is possible.
Every effort will be made to follow the published lesson schedule. If a change to the schedule becomes necessary, please refer to the Tuition & Attendance section for information regarding student absences, teacher cancellations, and make-up lessons or refunds.
Lesson Schedule
Lessons will take place at my apartment. You can park in my complex’s parking lot, preferably in front of my apartment building. My building is one of the singular buildings diagonal from the apartment managing office.
Parking
-Violin
-Bow
-Case
-Shoulder Rest
-Rosin
-Music (A book may need to be ordered by the parent)
If you need to rent a violin, I would recommend Ferguson Violins here in Rexburg.
Materials Required
-The student needs to practice, I cannot help the student progress if they did not practice the week before.
-If the student is under the age of 15, I need to have a parent present. This needs to happen so that both the student and the parent are informed of what happens in lessons. The parent can bring anything they need to do during the lesson as long as it does not disrupt the lesson.
